Condo Recycling: How to Recycle In a Multi-Unit Dwelling

February 4, 2022

If you live in a multi-unit housing complex, like a condominium, a duplex or a townhome, this post is for you! Below are some tips about how to make recycling easier in a multi-unit building.

  • Keep a recycling can in your kitchen—or wherever you produce the most recyclable goods. It’s even better if the can is a manageable size that can be easily carried down to the recycling room or area!
  • Make frequent trips to the recycling room or area to avoid buildups of cardboard and plastic.
  • Break down boxes before you put them in the shared recycling container. Since multiple people use the same collection boxes, breaking down cardboard to save space is more important than ever.
  • Depending on the size of your building or the number of residents that live there, you may be putting your recyclables into carts or recycling dumpsters.

Here’s what services are included in your annual fee if you live in a condominium:

  • Trash – Unlimited weekly collection (one 95-gallon cart provided) and bulky waste pick-up
  • Recycling – Every other week collection (up to two 95-gallon carts)
  • Yard Waste – Depends on location, speak with your building or property manager but typically does not apply to condominiums

Here’s what’s included for multi-family (duplex, triplex, quadplex) residents:

  • Trash – Unlimited weekly collection (one 95-gallon cart provided) and bulky waste pick-up
  • Recycling – Every other week collection (up to two 95-gallon carts)
  • Yard Waste – Every week collection from mid-March to mid-December

Remember, if you’re not sure how to get started with recycling or other waste pickup, talk to your building or property manager about recycling options available to you.
