Kitchen boxes, cardboard, and cardboard tubes
Your kitchen is full of cardboard boxes. Big or small, corrugated or paperboard. Take a quick look around your kitchen. There are pasta boxes, shipping boxes, tissue boxes, so many boxes – and they can all be recycled.
Cardboard is a simple and easy item to recycle. There are two main types of boxes – corrugated cardboard and paperboard. Corrugated cardboard is used for mailed packages. Paperboard is used for food and consumer good boxes. Both types are recyclable.
So whether it’s a shipping box or one found in your kitchen pantry – all you need to do is remove any plastic film or packaging, flatten it and place it neatly inside your recycling cart (brown PDC cart with orange lid).
No need to worry about removing any labels or tape. Ensure the box is clean, dry, and free of any food products.
More Helpful Tips:
- Pizza delivery boxes with food or grease are contaminated. You can recycle the top or clean cardboard and toss the rest out in your household trash.
- Milk cartons and juice boxes can be recycled. Give the cartons a quick rinse before recycling.
- Paper towel tubes can also be recycled. Remove any paper towel first, as paper towels are not recyclable.
- Frozen food boxes may be questionable. Some are, and others are not recyclable. If a box is coated with wax or a similar substance, it can affect its ability to be recycled. You can check the bottom of these containers for a recycling symbol (typically a triangle made up of three arrows). When in doubt, throw it out.
