New for 2019 – Collection Day Changes

What is staying the same?

  1. Every residential home in the City of Peoria is provided with a 95-gallon trash cart with wheels and lid. This cart is the property of the City of Peoria and needs to remain at the residential home.
  2. All trash needs to be bagged for collection, even trash inside your City of Peoria or personal trash cart.
  3. Trash carts need to be set out by 6:00 a.m. and removed from the curb or alley by 5:00 p.m. It may be put out as early as 3:00 p.m. the previous day.
  4. Be sure your container is not blocked by obstacles such as cars, snow, or mailboxes.

Where do I put my cart and when will be picked up?

Your trash cart will be picked up every week.

Trash may be set out as early as 3:00 p.m. the day before pickup but must be out by 6:00 a.m. on pickup day to avoid missing a collection.

On your pickup day, move your trash cart from the curb or alley by 5:00 p.m. It needs to be placed in your garage or along the side of your home or garage, it cannot be in front or back of your house.

Do you need a trash cart?

  1. Call Public Works at (309) 494-8800 or please click Sign Up for Trash Cart.
  2. You can use your own container, less than 45 gallons, with a tight-fitting lid and handles, or black trash bags if you have additional trash for collection. Containers or trash bags should be less than 50 pounds. There are no additional charges for using additional trash containers or trash bags.

Holiday Pickup

Your regular trash pickup will be delayed by one day if it falls on or after the following holidays.

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day

Yes, Peoria Picks Up – Bulky Waste

Bulky waste is defined as items too large to fit inside your trash carts, such as furniture, mattresses, building materials, and other big items. These items can be collected from your household at no additional cost simply place these items at your curb or alley on your pickup day. No loose items will be collected. Bulky items do not include electronics or tires.

Tip – If it can be placed in a bag, bag it.
