Yes, Peoria Picks Up Recycling

Yes, Peoria Picks Up! – Cans

July 24, 2019

Have you looked at the label on top of your recycling cart that shows all the recyclable materials that are recyclable?  Take a look at the first one of the left – cans.

Recycling metal cans

Cans are one of the most valuable things you can recycle.  Did you know the aluminum and steel cans can be recycled over and over again without the materials degrading?  Did you know that in 60 days, that soup can in your recycling cart could be back on the store shelf as a soda can?

So what types of cans are recyclable?

All kinds of cans are recyclable in Peoria.

  • Soda cans
  • Soup can
  • Tuna cans
  • Coffee cans
  • Aluminum cans
  • Steel cans
  • Tin cans

How should we recycle cans?

  1. Once the can is empty, rinse it out to get any leftover food, liquid, or residue out (no need to remove labels).
  2. Let the can dry.
  3. Place it in your recycling cart.

No tanglers, please.

While metal cans are perfect for your recycling cart, other types of metal should go into your trash cart instead.  Especially items known as tanglers.  These include hoses, wires, and chains.  These type of materials can be stuck in the recycling facilities equipment.

Don’t have a recycling cart yet?

Each city of Peoria household can have up to two recycling carts.  Fill out the form at Sign-Up for Recycling and PDC will deliver your cart so you can start recycling.
