Recycling in the Command Center – Set Up

July 29, 2021

If you’ve read the Set Up posts for the Kitchen and Bathroom, you can probably guess how to set up a recycling station in this area of your home. Whether it’s a space when you walk in the door, at your kitchen table, or a home office – we all have an area in our home that’s a catch-all for things such as mail, school papers, and other things from our pockets, purses, and book bags. So how do we ensure we’re recycling from this area as we do in other rooms? We set up a recycling station!

Setting Up Your Command Center Recycling Station

Recycling paper in the command centerYou may already have a trash bin in this area. To help you remember to recycle items that can be put in your recycling cart, add a second bin specifically for recycling. You can even print a recycling symbol or the word to put on the container so people know which bin is for recycling and which is for trash.

When In Doubt, Throw It Out

In Recycling in the Command Center 101, we shared the types of recyclables we find in this area. But if you ever have doubts about if something is recyclable, throw it out.

Need a Recycling Cart?

Call Peoria Disposal Company (PDC) at (309) 674-5176, option one or click Sign Up for Recycling to request your 95-gallon single-stream recycling cart with wheels and a lid, with no deposit required. To take advantage of the recycling collection, you must use the provided cart (brown cart with orange lid). If you regularly have too much recycling for your cart, you may request a second 95-gallon cart from PDC at no cost.
